So travel freely, throughout the land [during] four months. (9-2) |
فَسِيحُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ |
to move around, travel |
سَاحَ-يَسِيحُ |
…had explored throughout the lands.(50-36) |
فَنَقَّبُوا فِي الْبِلَادِ |
explore |
نَقَّبَ-يُنَقِّبُ |
But know that you cannot cause failure to Allah. (9-2) |
وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّكُمْ غَيْرُ مُعْجِزِي اللَّهِ |
cause failure |
مُعْجِزٌ ج مُعْجِزُونَ |
But the ones who strove against Our verses, [seeking] to cause failure…(22-51) |
وَالَّذِينَ سَعَوْا فِي آيَاتِنَا مُعَاجِزِينَ |
cause failure |
مُعَاجِزٌ ج مُعَاجِزُعنَ |
We will never cause failure to Allah upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.(72-12) |
لَنْ نُّعْجِزَ اللّٰـهَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَن نُّعْجِزَهُ هَرَبًا |
to make failed |
أَعْجَزَ-يُعْجِزُ |
Indeed, your Lord is in observation. (89-14) |
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ |
observation center |
مَرْصَدٌ، مِرْصَادٌ |
But whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him. (72-9) |
فَمَنْ يَّسْتَمِعِ الْآنَ يَجِدْ لَهُ شِهَابًا رَّصَدًا |
guard, waiting meteorite |
رَصَدٌ، إرْصَادٌ |
It is not for the polytheists to maintain the mosques of Allah . (9-17) |
مَا كَانَ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ أَنْ يَّعْمُرُوْا مَسَاجِدَ اللّٰهِ |
maintain |
عَمَرَ-يَعْمُرُ |
Have you made the providing of water for the pilgrim and the maintenance of al-Masjid al-Haram equal to [the deeds of] one who believes in Allah and the Last Day and strives in the cause of Allah?(9-19) |
أَجَعَلْتُمْ سِقَايَةَ الْحَاجِّ وَعِمَارَةَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ كَمَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّـهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَجَاهَدَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّـهِ |
maintenance |
عِمَارَةٌ |
And [by] the frequented House. (52-4) |
وَالْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ |
the kabah of angels at uppermost sky, frequented house of angels |
مَعْمُورٌ |
And commerce wherein you fear decline. (9-24)
|
وَتِجَارَةٌ تَخْشَوْنَ كَسَادَهَا |
decline |
كَسَادٌ |
Allah has already given you victory in many regions and [even] on the day of Hunayn. (9-25) |
لَقَدْ نَصَرَكُمُ اللَّهُ فِي مَوَاطِنَ كَثِيرَةٍ وَيَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ |
Battlefield
|
مَوْطِنٌ ج مَوَاطِنُ |
And the earth was confining for you with its vastness. (9-25) |
وَضَاقَتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الْأَرْضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتْ |
confined, strainted |
ضَاقَ-يَضِيقُ |
And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say.(15-97) |
وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ |
confined, strainted |
ضَاقَ-يَضِيقُ |

|
|
رَحُبَ-يَرْحُبُ |
Until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.(9-29) |
حَتَّىٰ يُعْطُوا الْجِزْيَةَ عَنْ يَدٍ وَهُمْ صَاغِرُونَ |
jiziya, protection tax |
جِزْيَةٌ |
So may we assign for you an expenditur...?(18-94) |
فَهَلْ نَجْعَلُ لَكَ خَرْجًا |
tax, expenditure |
خَرْجٌ، خَرَاجٌ |
The Day when it will be heated in the fire of Hell and seared therewith will be their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs… (9-35) |
يَوْمَ يُحْمَىٰ عَلَيْهَا فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ فَتُكْوَىٰ بِهَا جِبَاهُهُمْ وَجُنُوبُهُمْ وَظُهُورُهُمْ |
to make heated |
حَمَى-يَحْمِي |
|
|
seared |
كَوَى-يَكْوِي |
Indeed in that are signs for those who discern. (15-75) |
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ |
|
وَسَمَ-يَسِمُ |
And with it will be branded their foreheads. (9-35) |
فَتُكْوَىٰ بِهَا جِبَاهُهُمْ |
forehead |
جَبْهَةٌ ج جِبَاهٌ |
And he put him down upon his forehead. (37-103) |
وَتَلَّهُ لِلْجَبِينِ |
forehead |
جَبِينٌ |
Indeed, the postponing [of restriction within sacred months] is an increase in disbelief.(9-37) |
إِنَّمَا النَّسِيءُ زِيَادَةٌ فِي الْكُفْرِ |
prosponding |
نَسِيءٌ |
To correspond to the number made unlawful by Allah.(9-37) |
لِّيُوَاطِئُوا عِدَّةَ |
to make corresponding |
وَاطَأَ-يُوَاطِئُ |
You adhere heavily to the earth. (9-38) |
اِثَّاقَلْتُمْ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ |
to cling heavily |
اِثَّاقَلَ |
They two were in the cave. (9-40) |
إِذْ هُمَا فِي الْغَارِ |
cave |
غَارٌ |
If they could find a refuge or some caves or any place to enter. (9-57) |
لَوْ يَجِدُونَ مَلْجَأً أَوْ مَغَارَاتٍ أَوْ مُدَّخَلًا |
mountain cave |
مَغَارَةٌ ج مَغَارَاتٌ |
When the youths retreated to the cave. (18-10) |
إِذْ أَوَى الْفِتْيَةُ إِلَى الْكَهْفِ |
Wide cave of mountain |
كَهْفٌ |
Had it been an easy gain and a moderate trip. (9-42) |
لَوْ كَانَ عَرَضًا قَرِيبًا وَسَفَرًا قَاصِدًا |
easy, short |
قَاصِدٌ (قَصَدَ-يَقْصِدُ) |
But distant to them was the journey.(9-42) |
بَعُدَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الشُّقَّةُ |
path, distant |
شُقَّةٌ |
So that they are tossed in their doubts to and fro.(9-45) |
فَهُمْ فِي رَيْبِهِمْ يَتَرَدَّدُونَ |
wheeled |
تَرَدَّدَ-يَتَرَدَّدُ |
And they would have been active among you. (9-47) |
وَلَأَوْضَعُوا خِلَالَكُمْ |
bustle around |
أَوْضَعَ-يُوْضِعُ |
When the most wretched of them was sent forth. (91-12) |
إِذِ انبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا |
raise up |
اِنْبَعَثَ-يَنْبَعِثُ (انْبِعَاثٌ) |
If they could find a refuge or some caves or any place to enter.(9-57) |
لَوْ يَجِدُونَ مَلْجَأً أَوْ مَغَارَاتٍ أَوْ مُدَّخَلًا |

مُدَّخَلٌ |
Of the hills He made some for your shelter. (16-81) |
وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ الْجِبَالِ أَكْنَانًا |
shelter, covering |
كِنٌّ ج أَكْنَانٌ |
And falsehood has departed. (17-81) |
وَزَهَقَ الْبَاطِلُ |
perished, departed |
زَهَقَ-يَزْهَقُ |
Indeed is falsehood, ever bound to depart. (17-81) |
إِنَّ الْبَاطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا |
depart |
زَاهِقٌ، زَهُوقٌ |
They would turn to it while they run heedlessly. (9-57) |
وَهُمْ يَجْمَحُونَ |
run away |
جَمَحَ-يَجْمَحُ |
So He penalized them with hypocrisy in their hearts. (9-77) |
فَأَعْقَبَهُمْ نِفَاقًا فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ |
As a penalty |
أَعْقَبَ-يُعْقِبُ |
Criticize you concerning the charities. (9-58) |
يَلْمِزُكَ فِي الصَّدَقَاتِ |
criticize |
لَمزَ-يَلْمِزُ |
Zakah expenditures are only for the poor ... and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt... (9-60) |
إِنَّمَا الصَّدَقَاتُ لِلْفُقَرَاءِ... وَفِي الرِّقَابِ وَالْغَارِمِينَ ... |
in debt |
غَارِمٌ ح غَارِمُونَ |
"Indeed, we are [now] in debt. (56-66) |
إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ |
in debt |
مُغْرَمٌ ج مُغْرَمُونَ |
... and for bringing hearts together [for Islam]… (9-60) |
وَالْمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ |
to make inclined |
مُؤَلَّفَةٌ |
For them wherein is enduring pleasure. (9-21) |
لَهُمْ فِيهَا نَعِيمٌ مُقِيمٌ |
enduring |
مُقِيمٌ |
So do not obey the disbelievers, and strive against them with the Qur'an a great striving. (25-52) |
فَلَا تُطِعِ الْكَافِرِينَ وَجَاهِدْهُم بِهِ جِهَادًا كَبِيرًا |
strive, fight |
جُهْدٌ، جَهْدٌ، جَاهَدَ، جِهَادٌ |
We have certainly created man into hardship.(90-4) |
خَلَقْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ فِي كَبَدٍ |
hardship, tolerance |
كَبَدٌ |
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion. (84-6) |
يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنسَانُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا |
strive to win, laboring , try hard |
كَدْحٌ |
So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers. (83-34) |
فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ |
laugh |
ضَحِكَ-يَضْحَكُ |
So he smiled, amused at her speech.(27-19) |
فَتَبَسَّمَ ضَاحِكًا مِّن قَوْلِهَا |
smile, chuckle |
تَبَسَّمَ-يَتَبَسَّمُ |
And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep(53-43) |
هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ |
makes (one) laugh |
أَضْحَكَ-يُضْحِكُ |
smiled, amused(27-19) |
ضَاحِكَةٌ مُسْتَبْشِرَةٌ |
cheerful, smiled |
ضَاحِكٌ، ضَاحِكَةٌ |
So let them laugh a little and [then] weep much as recompense for what they used to earn. (9-82) |
فَلْيَضْحَكُوا قَلِيلًا وَلْيَبْكُوا كَثِيرًا جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ |
weep |
بَكَى-يَبْكِي |
And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep(53-43) |
هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ |
makes (one) wep |
أَبْكَى-يُبْكِي |
They fell in prostration and weeping.(19-58) |
خَرُّوا سُجَّدًا وَبُكِيًّا |
weeping |
بُكِيٌّ |
And when graves are scattered.(82-4) |
وَإِذَا الْقُبُورُ بُعْثِرَتْ |
grave |
قَبْرٌ ج قُبُورٌ |
Until you visit the graveyards.(102-2) |
حَتَّىٰ زُرْتُمُ الْمَقَابِرَ |
graveyard |
مَقْبَرَةٌ ج مَقَابِرُ |
They will emerge from the graves. (54-7) |
يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ |
grave |
جَدَثٌ ج جَدَثٌ ج أَجْدَاثٌ |
And those with excuses among the bedouins came. (9-90) |
وَجَاءَ الْمُعَذِّرُونَ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ |
the one who makes excuses |
مُعَذِّرٌ ج مُعَذِّرُونَ |
They will make excuses to you.(9-94) |
يَعْتَذِرُونَ إِلَيْكُمْ |
to make excuse |
اِعْتَذَرَ-يَعْتَذِرُ |
And those with excuses among the bedouins came. (9-90) |
وَجَاءَ الْمُعَذِّرُونَ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ |
the dedouins |
أَعْرَابٌ |
They would wish they were in the desert among the bedouins, inquiring about your news.(33-20) |
يَوَدُّوا لَوْ أَنَّهُم بَادُونَ فِي الْأَعْرَابِ يَسْأَلُونَ عَنْ أَنبَائِكُمْ |
people who live in deserts |
بَادٍ ج بَادُونَ |
Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred. (5-91) |
إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَنْ يُوقِعَ بَيْنَكُمُ الْعَدَاوَةَ |
cause |
أَوْقَعَ-يُوقِعُ |
They are by debt burdened down. (68-46) |
فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ |
debt |
مَغْرَمٌ |
And await for you turns of misfortune. (9-98) |
وَيَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمُ الدَّوَائِرَ |
bad badys, misfortune |
دَائِرَةٌ ج دَوَائِرُ |
There is no repelling it. (13-11) |
فَلَا مَرَدَّ لَهُ |
to remain firm |
مَرَدَ-يَمْرُدُ |
And others who have acknowledged their sins. (9-102) |
وَآخَرُونَ اعْتَرَفُوا بِذُنُوبِهِمْ |
acknowledge |
اِعْتَرَفَ-يَعْتَرِفُ |
"We announce to You that there is [no longer] among us any witness [to that]." (41-47) |
آذَنَّاكَ مَا مِنَّا مِن شَهِيدٍ |
to call, convene |
آذَانَ-يُآذِنُ |
A mosque founded on righteousness. (9-108) |
أَفَمَنْ أَسَّسَ بُنْيَانَهُ عَلَىٰ تَقْوَىٰ مِنَ اللَّـهِ |
founded |
أَسَّسَ-يُؤَسِّسُ |
One who laid the foundation of his building on the edge of a bank about to collapse. (9-109) |
مَّنْ أَسَّسَ بُنْيَانَهُ عَلَىٰ شَفَا جُرُفٍ هَارٍ |
foundation |
بُنْيَانٌ |
collapse |
هَارٍ |
||
So it collapsed with him. (9-109) |
فَانْهَارَ بِهِ |
collapsed |
اِنْهَارَ-يَنْهِيرُ |
A wall about to collapse. (18-77) |
جِدَارًا يُرِيدُ أَن يَنقَضَّ |
about to be collapsed |
اِنْقَضَّ-يَنْقِضُّ |
Those who enjoin what is right. (9-112) |
الْآمِرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ |
the person who enjoins |
آمِرٌ ج آمِرُونَ |
Who forbid what is wrong. (9-112) |
وَالنَّاهُونَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ |
the person who forbides |
نَاهٍ ج نَاهُونَ |
Preventer of good. (50-15) |
مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ |
forbidder |
مَانِعٌ، مَنَّاعٌ
|
Indeed was Abraham compassionate and patient. (9-114) |
إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لَأَوَّاهٌ حَلِيمٌ |
compassionate |
أَوَّاهٌ |
Cruel, moreover, and an illegitimate pretender. (68-13) |
عُتُلٍّ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ زَنِيمٍ |
cruel |
عُتُلٌّ |
Over which are [appointed] angels, harsh and severe. (66- 6) |
عَلَيْهَا مَلَائِكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ شِدَادٌ |
harsh |
غِلَاظٌ |
They are not afflicted by thirst. (9-120) |
لَا يُصِيبُهُمْ ظَمَأٌ |
thrist |
ظَمَأٌ (ظَمَأَ-يَظْأَمُ) |
A thirsty one thinks is water. (24-39) |
يَحْسَبُهُ الظَّمْآنُ مَاءً |
thirsty |
ظَمْآنُ |
They are not afflicted by thirst or fatigue. (9-120) |
لَا يُصِيبُهُمْ ظَمَأٌ وَلَا نَصَبٌ |
fatigue |
نَصَبٌ |
And there touched Us no weariness. (50-38) |
وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبٍ |
weariness |
لُغُوبٌ |
Working [hard] and exhausted.(88-3) |
عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ |
exhausted |
نَاصِبَةٌ |
While it is fatigued. (67-4) |
وَهُوَ حَسِيرٌ |
fatigued |
حَسِيرٌ |
They exalt night and day [and] do not slacken. (21-20) |
يُسَبِّحُونَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ لَا يَفْتُرُونَ |
slacken |
فَتَرَ-يَفْتَرُ |
And those near Him are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, nor do they tire. (21-19) |
لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِ وَلَا يَسْتَحْسِرُونَ |
to be tired |
اسْتَحْسَرَ-يَسْتَحْسِرُ |
They tread on any ground that enrages the disbelievers. (9-120) |
يَطَئُونَ مَوْطِئًا يَغِيظُ الْكُفَّارَ |
take action |
وَطَأَ-يَطَأُ |

Concerned over you . (9-128)
|
حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُم |
concerned |
حَرِيصٌ |
