Do not follow  the footsteps of the evil one. (2:208)

وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ

footsteps

خُطْوَةٌ (ج) خُطُوَاتٌ

Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you to immorality.

 (2:268)

الشَّيْطَانُ يَعِدُكُمُ الْفَقْرَ وَيَأْمُرُكُم بِالْفَحْشَاءِ

immorality

فَحْشَاءُ

those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins. (3:135)

إِذَا فَعَلُوا فَاحِشَةً أَوْ ظَلَمُوا أَنفُسَهُمْ ذَكَرُوا اللَّهَ فَاسْتَغْفَرُوا لِذُنُوبِهِمْ

Immorality, wrong

فَاحِشَةٌ (ج) فَوَاحِشُ

do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. (17:32)

وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا الزِّنَا

unlawful sexual intercourse

زِنَا (زَنَى-يَزْنِي)

do not compel your slave girls to prostitution. (24:32)

وَلَا تُكْرِهُوا فَتَيَاتِكُمْ عَلَى الْبِغَاءِ

prostitution

بِغَاءٌ

wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. (52:23)

لَّا لَغْوٌ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌ

comission of ill

تَأْثِيمٌ

do not compel your slave girls to prostitution, if they desire chastity. (24:32)

وَلَا تُكْرِهُوا فَتَيَاتِكُمْ عَلَى الْبِغَاءِ إِنْ أَرَدْنَ تَحَصُّنًا

chastity

تَحَصُّنٌ

one who shouts at what hears nothing but calls and cries cattle or sheep. (2:171)

الَّذِي يَنْعِقُ بِمَا لَا يَسْمَعُ

shout

نَعَقَ-يَنْعِقُ

And they will cry out therein, "Our Lord, remove us; we will do righteousness - other than what we were doing!" (35:37)

وَهُمْ يَصْطَرِخُونَ فِيهَا رَبَّنَا أَخْرِجْنَا نَعْمَلْ صَالِحًا غَيْرَ الَّذِي كُنَّا نَعْمَلُ

cry out (for assistance)

اِصْطَرَخَ-يَصْطَرِخُ

Until when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, at once they are crying [to Allah] for help. (23:64)

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا أَخَذْنَا مُتْرَفِيهِم بِالْعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمْ يَجْأَرُونَ

جَأَرَ-يَجْأَرُ

when suddenly the one who sought his help the previous day cried out to him [once again]. (28:18)

الَّذِي اسْتَنصَرَهُ بِالْأَمْسِ يَسْتَصْرِخُهُ

cry out

اسْتَصْرَخَ-يَسْتَصْرِخُ

what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful. (9:29)

مَا حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

unlawful

حَرَّمَ-يُحَرِّمُ

makes lawful for them the good things. (7:157)

وَيُحِلُّ لَهُمُ الطَّيِّبَاتِ

make lawful

أَحَلَّ-يُحِلُّ

hunting not being permitted while you are in the state of ihram. (5:1)

مُحِلِّي الصَّيْدِ وَأَنتُمْ حُرُمٌ

hunt

مُحِلٌّ

He has only forbidden you dead animals. (16:115)

إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَيْتَةَ

مَيْتَةٌ

Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah, and [those animals] killed by strangling.

 (5:3)

حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَيْتَةُ وَالدَّمُ وَلَحْمُ الْخِنزِيرِ وَمَا أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ بِهِ وَالْمُنْخَنِقَةُ

مُنْخَنِفَةٌ

by a violent blow or by a head-long fall or by the goring of horns. (5:3)

وَالْمَوْقُوذَةُ وَالْمُتَرَدِّيَةُ وَالنَّطِيحَةُ

by a violent blow or by a head-long fall or by the goring of horns. (5:3)

وَالْمَوْقُوذَةُ وَالْمُتَرَدِّيَةُ وَالنَّطِيحَةُ

head-long fall

مُتَرَدِّيَةٌ

by a violent blow or by a head-long fall or by the goring of horns. (5:3)

وَالْمَوْقُوذَةُ وَالْمُتَرَدِّيَةُ وَالنَّطِيحَةُ

goring of horn

نَطِيحَةٌ

the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. (5:3)

وَلَحْمُ الْخِنزِيرِ وَمَا أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ بِهِ

flesh

لَحْمٌ (ج) لُحُومٌ

the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. (5:3)

وَلَحْمُ الْخِنزِيرِ وَمَا أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ بِهِ

swine

خِنْزِيْرٌ خَنَازِيرُ

the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. (5:3)

وَلَحْمُ الْخِنزِيرِ وَمَا أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ بِهِ

dedicate

أَهَلَّ-يُهِلُّ

But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him. (2:173)

فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَلَا عَادٍ فَلَا إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ

desiring

بَاغٍ

But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him. (2:173)

فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَلَا عَادٍ فَلَا إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ

عَادٍ (ج) عَادُونَ

Preventer of good, aggressor, and doubter,  (50:25)

 

مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ مُّرِيبٍ

مُعْتَدٍ (ج) مُعْتَدُونَ

but you were a transgressing people. (37:30)

بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا طَاغِينَ

transgressing people

طَاغٍ (ج) طَاغُونَ

My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb. (3:35)

إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ لَكَ مَا فِي بَطْنِي

womb

بَطْنٌ (ج) بُطُونٌ

When the Hellfire sees them from a distant place (25:12)

إِذَا رَأَتْهُم مِّن مَّكَانٍ بَعِيدٍ

a distant place

بَعِيدٌ (بَعُدُ-يَبْعُدُ)

He was snatched by the birds or the wind carried him down into a remote place. (22:31)

تَهْوِي بِهِ الرِّيحُ فِي مَكَانٍ سَحِيقٍ

a remote place

سَحِيقٌ

So she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a remote place. (19:22)

فَحَمَلَتْهُ فَانتَبَذَتْ بِهِ مَكَانًا قَصِيًّا

a remote place

قَصِيٌّ

they will come from every distant pass (22:27)

يَأْتِينَ مِن كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍ

distant pass

عَمِيقٌ

Indeed, the mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good. (7:56)

إِنَّ رَحْمَتَ اللَّهِ قَرِيبٌ مِّنَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

near

قَرِيبٌ

And it is not your wealth or your children that bring you nearer to Us in position, (34:37)

وَمَا أَمْوَالُكُمْ وَلَا أَوْلَادُكُم بِالَّتِي تُقَرِّبُكُمْ عِندَنَا زُلْفَىٰ

nearer

زُلْفَى

I bring down leaves for my sheep (20:18)

وَأَهُشُّ بِهَا عَلَىٰ غَنَمِي وَلِيَ

bring down

وَلِيَ

indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (2:192)

فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

forgiving

غَفُورٌ

The forgiver of sin, acceptor of repentance, (40:3)

غَافِرِ الذَّنبِ وَقَابِلِ التَّوْبِ

forgiver of sin

غَافِرٌ (ج) غَافِرُونَ

Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver." (38:66)

رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفَّارُ

Perpetual Forgiver

غَفَّارٌ

But indeed, Allah is Pardoning and Forgiving. (58;2)

وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَعَفُوٌّ غَفُورٌ

Pardoning

عَفُوٌّ

who pardon the people (3:134)

وَالْعَافِينَ عَنِ النَّاسِ

who pardons

عَافٍ (ج) عَافُونَ

Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness. (8:33)

وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ

one who punishes

مُعَذِّبٌ (ج) مُعَذِّبُونَ

Indeed We, from the criminals, will take retribution. (32:22)

إِنَّا مِنَ الْمُجْرِمِينَ مُنتَقِمُونَ

who takes retribution

مُنْتَقِمٌ (ج) مُنْتَقِمُونَ

So give the relative his right, as well as the needy and the traveler. (30:38)

فَآتِ ذَا الْقُرْبَىٰ حَقَّهُ وَالْمِسْكِينَ وَابْنَ السَّبِيلِ

traveler

اِبْنُ السَّبِيْلِ

except those passing through  (4:43)

إِلَّا عَابِرِي سَبِيلٍ

those passing through  

عَابِرُ السَبِيلِ

And as for the petitioner, do not repel [him]. (93:10)

وَأَمَّا السَّائِلَ فَلَا تَنْهَرْ

petitioner

سَائِلٌ

and feed the needy (22:36)

وَأَطْعِمُوا الْقَانِعَ وَالْمُعْتَرَّ

needy

مُعْتَرٌ

strike [their] necks until (47:4)

فَضَرْبَ الرِّقَابِ

neck

رَقَبَةٌ (ج) رِقَابٌ

set about striking [their] legs and necks. (38:33)

فَطَفِقَ مَسْحًا بِالسُّوقِ وَالْأَعْنَاقِ

neck

عُنُقٌ (ج) أَعْنَاقٌ

Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber. (111:5)

فِي جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌ مِّن مَّسَدٍ

neck

جِيدٌ

We seized them with poverty and hardship (6:42)

فَأَخَذْنَاهُم بِالْبَأْسَاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ

poverty, hardship

بَأْسٌ، بَأْسَاءُ

Every time they kindled the fire of war [against you], Allah extinguished it. (5:64)

كُلَّمَا أَوْقَدُوا نَارًا لِّلْحَرْبِ أَطْفَأَهَا اللَّهُ

war

حَرْبٌ

And sufficient was Allah for the believers in battle, (33:25)

وَكَفَى اللَّهُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الْقِتَالَ

battle

قِتَالٌ

O you who have believed, prescribed for you is legal retribution for those murdered (2:178)

كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْقِصَاصُ فِي الْقَتْلَى

retribution

قِصَاصٌ

payment to him with good conduct. (2:178)

وَأَدَاءٌ إِلَيْهِ بِإِحْسَانٍ

payment

أَدَاءٌ

As guidance and a reminder for those of understanding.

 (40:54)

هُدًى وَذِكْرَىٰ لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ

 understanding

لُبٌّ (ج) أَلْبَابٌ

Or do their minds command them to [say] this, (52:32)

أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَامُهُم بِهَٰذَا

mind

حِلْمٌ (ج) أَحْلَامٌ

Indeed, in that are signs for those of intelligence. (20:54)

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّأُولِي النُّهَىٰ

intelligent

نُهَى

But if one fears from the bequeather [some] error or sin (2:182)

فَمَنْ خَافَ مِن مُّوصٍ جَنَفًا

error or sin

جَنَفٌ

decreed upon you is fasting

 (2:183)

كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ

صِيَامٌ

Indeed, I have vowed to the Most Merciful abstention, (19:26)

إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ صَوْمًا

abstention

صَوْمٌ

So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; (2:184)

فَمَن شَهِدَ مِنكُمُ الشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ

fast

صَامَ-يَصُومُ

the fasting men and fasting women, (33:35)

وَالصَّائِمِينَ وَالصَّائِمَاتِ

fasting person

صَائِمٌ (ج) صَائُمُونَ (صَائِمَاتٌ)

worshipping, and traveling - [ones] previously married and virgins. (66:5)

عَابِدَاتٍ سَائِحَاتٍ ثَيِّبَاتٍ وَأَبْكَارًا

worshipping

سَائِحٌ (ج) سَائِحُونَ (سَائِحَاتٌ)

We have certainly suffered in this, our journey, [much] fatigue. (18:62)

لَقَدْ لَقِينَا مِن سَفَرِنَا هَٰذَا نَصَبًا

journey

سَفَرٌ (ج) أَسْفَارٌ

which you find light on your day of travel and your day of encampment (16:80)

تَسْتَخِفُّونَهَا يَوْمَ ظَعْنِكُمْ وَيَوْمَ إِقَامَتِكُمْ

travel

ظَعْنٌ

Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer. (106:2)

إِيلَافِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ الشِّتَاءِ وَالصَّيْفِ

caravan

رِحْلَةٌ

And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] - a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day]. (2:184)

وَعَلَى الَّذِينَ يُطِيقُونَهُ فِدْيَةٌ طَعَامُ مِسْكِينٍ

hardship

أَطَاقَ-يُطِيْقُ

The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, (2:185)

شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ

month

شَهْرٌ (ج) شُهُورٌ، أَشْهُرٌ

Allah intends for you ease (2:185)

يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ بِكُمُ الْيُسْرَ

ease

يُسْرٌ

We will ease him toward ease. (92:7)

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ

ease

يُسْرَى

Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. (94:6)

إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا

hardship

عُسْرٌ، عُسْرَةٌ

We will ease him toward difficulty. (92:10)

 

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْعُسْرَىٰ

difficulty

عُسْرَى

you could not have reached except with difficulty to yourselves. (16:7)

لَّمْ تَكُونُوا بَالِغِيهِ إِلَّا بِشِقِّ الْأَنفُسِ

difficulty

شِقٌّ

And your Lord glorify. (74:3)

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ

glorify

كَبَّرَ-يُكَبِّرُ (تَكْبِيرٌ)

It has been made permissible for you the night preceding fasting to go to your wives [for sexual relations]. (2:187)

أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ لَيْلَةَ الصِّيَامِ الرَّفَثُ إِلَىٰ نِسَائِكُمْ

رَفَثٌ

So now, have relations with them and seek that which Allah has decreed for you. (2:187)

فَالْآنَ بَاشِرُوهُنَّ وَابْتَغُوا مَا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ

relation

بَاشَرَ-يُبَاشِرُ

And when he covers her, she carries a light burden (7:189)

فَلَمَّا تَغَشَّاهَا حَمَلَتْ حَمْلًا

cover

تَغَشَّى-يَتَغَشَّى

then [there must be] the freeing of a slave before they touch one another. (58:3)

فَتَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَتَمَاسَّا

touch

تَمَاسَّ-يَتَمَاسُّ

you have contacted women and find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and your hands [with it]. (4:43)

أَوْ لَامَسْتُمُ النِّسَاءَ فَلَمْ تَجِدُوا مَاءً فَتَيَمَّمُوا

لَامَسَ-يُلَامِسُ

And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is fear of Allah. (2:197)

وَتَزَوَّدُوا فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ الزَّادِ التَّقْوَىٰ

provision

تَزَوَّدَ-يَتَزَوَّدُ

and their garments therein will be silk. (22:23)

وَلِبَاسُهُمْ فِيهَا حَرِيرٌ

garments

لِبَاسٌ (لَبِسَ-يَلْبَسُ)

Or clothing them or the freeing of a slave. (5:89)

أَوْ كِسْوَتُهُمْ أَوْ تَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ

clothing

كِسْوَةٌ (كَسَا-يَكْسُو)

We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. (7:26)

قَدْ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ لِبَاسًا يُوَارِي سَوْآتِكُمْ وَرِيشًا

clothing

رِيشٌ

Unquestionably, [even] when they cover themselves in their clothing, Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare. (11:5)

أَلَا حِينَ يَسْتَغْشُونَ ثِيَابَهُمْ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ

ثَوْبٌ (ج) ثِيَابٌ

And they brought upon his shirt false blood. (12:18)

وَجَاءُوا عَلَىٰ قَمِيصِهِ بِدَمٍ كَذِبٍ

false blood

قَمِيصٌ

has made for you garments which protect you from the heat and garments which protect you from your [enemy in] battle. (16:81)

وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ سَرَابِيلَ تَقِيكُمُ الْحَرَّ وَسَرَابِيلَ تَقِيكُم بَأْسَكُمْ

garment

سِرْبَالٌ (ج) سَرَابِيلُ

until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. (2:187)

حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الْأَسْوَدِ

خَيْطٌ

until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. (2:187)

حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الْأَسْوَدِ

white

أَبْيَضُ (بَيْضَاءُ) (ج) بِيْضٌ

On the Day [some] faces will turn white and [some] faces will turn black (3:106)

يَوْمَ تَبْيَضُّ وُجُوهٌ وَتَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهٌ

turn white

اِبْيَضَّ-يَبْيَضُّ

On the Day [some] faces will turn white and [some] faces will turn black (3:106)

يَوْمَ تَبْيَضُّ وُجُوهٌ وَتَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهٌ

black

أَسْوَدُ (ج) سُوْدٌ

And [then] makes it black stubble. (87:5)

فَجَعَلَهُ غُثَاءً أَحْوَىٰ

black stubble.

أَحْوَى

and [some] extremely black. (35:27)

وَغَرَابِيبُ سُودٌ

extremely black

غَرْبِيبٌ (ج) غَرَابِيبُ

his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief. (16:58)

وَجْهُهُ مُسْوَدًّا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ

dark

مُسْوَدٌّ

On the Day [some] faces will turn white and [some] faces will turn black (3:106)

يَوْمَ تَبْيَضُّ وُجُوهٌ وَتَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهٌ

turn black

اِسْوَدَّ-يَسْوَدُّ
