And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, (3-103) |
وَكُنتُمْ عَلَىٰ شَفَا حُفْرَةٍ مِّنَ النَّارِ |

حُفْرَةٌ |
one who laid the foundation of his building on the edge of a bank about to collapse, (9-109) |
مَّنْ أَسَّسَ بُنْيَانَهُ عَلَىٰ شَفَا جُرُفٍ هَارٍ |

Cursed were the companions of the trench (85-4) |
قُتِلَ أَصْحَابُ الْأُخْدُودِ |

أُخْدُودٌ |
Then taste the punishment for what you used to reject." (3-106) |
فَذُوقُوا الْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ |

ذَاقَ-يَذُوقُ |
rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, (47-15) |
وَأَنْهَارٌ مِّن لَّبَنٍ لَّمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ طَعْمُهُ |
taste |
طَعْمٌ |
This - so let them taste it - is scalding water and [foul] purulence. (38-57) |
هَٰذَا فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ حَمِيمٌ وَغَسَّاقٌ |
taste |
أَذَاقَ-يُذِيقُ |
Every soul will taste death, (3-185) |
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ |
taste |
ذَائِقٌ (ذَائِقَةٌ) ج ذَائِقُونَ |
a wind containing frost which strikes the harvest of a people. (3-117) |
كَمَثَلِ رِيحٍ فِيهَا صِرٌّ |
frost |
صِرٌّ |
They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. (76-13) |
لَا يَرَوْنَ فِيهَا شَمْسًا وَلَا زَمْهَرِيرًا |
[freezing] cold |
زَمْهَرِيرٌ |
be coolness and safety upon Abraham." (21-69) |
كُونِي بَرْدًا وَسَلَامًا عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ |
coolness |
بَرْدٌ، بَارِدٌ |
mountains [of clouds] within which is hail, and He strikes with it. (24-43) |
وَيُنَزِّلُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مِن جِبَالٍ فِيهَا مِن بَرَدٍ |
hail |
بَرَدٌ |
they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind (69-6) |
فَأُهْلِكُوا بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ |
violent wind |
صَرْصَرٌ |
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer - (106-2) |
إِيلَافِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ الشِّتَاءِ وَالصَّيْفِ |
winter |
الشِتَاءُ |
And said, "Do not go forth in the heat." (9-81) |
وَقَالُوا لَا تَنفِرُوا فِي الْحَرِّ |
heat |
حَرٌّ |
Nor are the shade and the heat, (35-21) |
وَلَا الظِّلُّ وَلَا الْحَرُورُ |
heat |
حَرُورٌ |
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer - (106-2) |
إِيلَافِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ الشِّتَاءِ وَالصَّيْفِ |
summer |
الصَيْفُ |
for they will not spare you [any] ruin. (3-118) |
لَا يَأْلُونَكُمْ خَبَالًا |
ruin |
خَبَالٌ |
They wish you would have hardship. (3-118) |
وَدُّوا مَا عَنِتُّمْ |
hardship |
عَنِتَ-يَعْنَتَ |
whose keys would burden a band of strong men; (28-76) |
إِنَّ مَفَاتِحَهُ لَتَنُوءُ بِالْعُصْبَةِ أُولِي الْقُوَّةِ |
burden |
نَاءَ-يَنُوءُ |
Who break the covenant of Allah after contracting it. (2-27) |
الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ |
break |
أَنْقَضَ-يُنْقِضُ |
Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, (3-118) |
قَدْ بَدَتِ الْبَغْضَاءُ مِنْ أَفْوَاهِهِمْ |
mouth |
فُوهٌ ج أَفْوَاهٌ |
But when they are alone, they bite their fingertips at you in rage. (3-119) |
وَإِذَا خَلَوْا عَضُّوا عَلَيْكُمُ الْأَنَامِلَ مِنَ الْغَيْظِ |
bite |
عَضَّ-يَعَضُّ |
And [remember] when you, [O Muhammad], left your family in the morning (3-121) |
وَإِذْ غَدَوْتَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ |
Left in the morning |
غَدَا-يَغْدُو |
And to Solomon [We subjected] the wind - its morning [journey was that of] a month - and its afternoon [journey was that of] a month, (34-12) |
وَلِسُلَيْمَانَ الرِّيحَ غُدُوُّهَا شَهْرٌ وَرَوَاحُهَا شَهْرٌ |

And to Solomon [We subjected] the wind - its morning [journey was that of] a month - and its afternoon [journey was that of] a month, (34-12) |
وَلِسُلَيْمَانَ الرِّيحَ غُدُوُّهَا شَهْرٌ وَرَوَاحُهَا شَهْرٌ |

stations for the battle [of Uhud]. (3-121) |
مَقَاعِدَ لِلْقِتَالِ |

مَقْعَدٌ ج مَقَاعِدُ |
distort words from their [proper] usages. (4-46) |
يُحَرِّفُونَ الْكَلِمَ عَن مَّوَاضِعِهِ |
[proper] usages |
مَوْضِعٌ ج مَوَاضِعُ |
Then I swear by the setting of the stars, (56-75) |
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ |

مَوْقِعٌ ج مَوَاقِعُ |
When two parties among you were about to lose courage, (3-122) |
إِذْ هَمَّت طَّائِفَتَانِ مِنكُمْ أَن تَفْشَلَا |

هَمَّ-يَهُمُّ |
When two parties among you were about to lose courage, (3-122) |
إِذْ هَمَّت طَّائِفَتَانِ مِنكُمْ أَن تَفْشَلَا |
lose courage |
فَشِلَ-يَفْشَلُ |
And do not weaken in pursuit of the enemy. (4-104) |
وَلَا تَهِنُوا فِي ابْتِغَاءِ الْقَوْمِ |
weaken |
وَهَنَ-يَهِنُ (وَهْنٌ) |
and upon Allah the believers should rely. (3-122) |
وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ |
rely |
تَوَكَّلَ-يَتَوَكَّلُ |
Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him]. (3-159) |
إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَوَكِّلِينَ |
who rely |
مُتَوَكِّلٌ ج مُتَوَكِّلُونَ |
Yes, if you remain patient and conscious of Allah and the enemy come upon you [attacking] in rage, (3-125) |
إِن تَصْبِرُوا وَتَتَّقُوا وَيَأْتُوكُم مِّن فَوْرِهِمْ |
[attacking] in rage |
فَوْرٌ |
until when the Hour [of resurrection] comes upon them unexpectedly, (6-31) |
حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَاءَتْهُمُ السَّاعَةُ بَغْتَةً |
unexpectedly |
بَغْتَةٌ |
angels having marks [of distinction] (3-125) |
الْمَلَائِكَةِ مُسَوِّمِينَ |
having marks [of distinction] |
مُسَوِّمٌ ج مُسَوِّمُونَ |
as wide as the heavens and earth, (3-133) |
عَرْضُهَا السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ |
wide |
عَرْضٌ |
do not consume usury, doubled and multiplied, (3-130) |
لَا تَأْكُلُوا الرِّبَا أَضْعَافًا مُّضَاعَفَةً |
multiplied |
أَضْعَافٌ |
do not consume usury, doubled and multiplied, (3-130) |
لَا تَأْكُلُوا الرِّبَا أَضْعَافًا مُّضَاعَفَةً |
doubled |
مُضَاعَفَةٌ |
and who restrain anger. (3-134) |
وَالْكَاظِمِينَ الْغَيْظَ |
who restrain |
كَاظِمٌ ج كَاظِمُونَ |
for he was [of that] a suppressor. (12-84) |
فَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ |
suppressor |
كَظِيمٌ |
and [who] do not persist in what they have done. (3-135) |
وَلَمْ يُصِرُّوا عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلُوا |
be persist |
أَصَرَّ-يُصِرُّ |
and observe how was the end of those who denied. (3-137) |
فَانظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ |
end |
عَاقِبَةٌ، عُقْبٌ، عُقْبَى |
This [Qur'an] is a clear statement to [all] the people (3-138) |
هَٰذَا بَيَانٌ لِّلنَّاسِ |
clear statement |
بَيَانٌ |
a wound should touch you. (3-140) |
إِن يَمْسَسْكُمْ قَرْحٌ |
wound |
قَرْحٌ |
And for wounds is legal retribution. (5-45) |
وَالْجُرُوحَ قِصَاصٌ |
wound |
جَرْحٌ ج جُرُوحٌ |
And these days [of varying conditions] We alternate among the people. (3-140) |
نُدَاوِلُهَا بَيْنَ النَّاسِ |
alternate |
دَاوَلَ-يُدَاوِلُ |
so that it will not be a perpetual distribution among the rich from among you. (59-7) |
كَيْ لَا يَكُونَ دُولَةً بَيْنَ الْأَغْنِيَاءِ مِنكُمْ |
perpetual distribution |
دُوَلَةٌ |
a decree determined. (3-145) |
كِتَابًا مُّؤَجَّلًا |
determined |
مُؤَجَّلٌ |
Then he turned you back from them [defeated]. (3-152) |
صَرَفَكُمْ عَنْهُمْ |
turn |
صَرَفَ-يَصْرِفُ (صَرْفٌ) |
Have you come to us to turn us away from that upon which we found our fathers? (10-78) |
أَجِئْتَنَا لِتَلْفِتَنَا عَمَّا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ آبَاءَنَا |

لَفَتَ-يَلْفِتُ |
while Allah has made them fall back [into error and disbelief] for what they earned. (4-88) |
وَاللَّهُ أَرْكَسَهُم بِمَا كَسَبُوا |
fall back [into error and disbelief] |
أَرْكَسَ-يُرْكِسُ |
And he to whom We grant long life We reverse in creation; (36-68) |
وَمَن نُّعَمِّرْهُ نُنَكِّسْهُ فِي الْخَلْقِ |
reverse |
نَكَّسَ-يُنَكِّسُ |
Unquestionably, on the Day it comes to them, it will not be averted from them, (11-8) |
أَلَا يَوْمَ يَأْتِيهِمْ لَيْسَ مَصْرُوفًا عَنْهُمْ |
avert from |
مَصْرُوفٌ |
so you would not grieve for that which had escaped you [of victory and spoils of war]. (3-153) |
لِّكَيْلَا تَحْزَنُوا عَلَىٰ مَا فَاتَكُمْ |
escape |
فَاتَ-يَفُوتُ |
They said while approaching them, "What is it you are missing?" (12-71) |
قَالُوا وَأَقْبَلُوا عَلَيْهِم مَّاذَا تَفْقِدُونَ |
miss |
فَقَدَ-يَفْقِدُ |
[in the form of] drowsiness, overcoming a faction of you, (3-154) |
يَغْشَىٰ طَائِفَةً مِّنكُمْ |
[in the form of] drowsiness |
غَشِيَ-يَغْشَى |
[Remember] when He overwhelmed you with drowsiness (8-11) |
إِذْ يُغَشِّيكُمُ النُّعَاسَ |
overwhelm with drowsiness |
غَشَّى-يُغَشِّي |
He covers the night with the day, (7-54) |
يُغْشِي اللَّيْلَ النَّهَارَ |
cover |
أَغْشَى-يُغْشِي |
covered themselves with their garments, (71-7) |
وَاسْتَغْشَوْا ثِيَابَهُمْ |
cover |
اسْتَغْشَى-يَسْتَغْشِي |
He wraps the night over the day. (39-5) |
يُكَوِّرُ اللَّيْلَ عَلَى النَّهَارِ |
wrap |
كَوَّرَ-يُكَوِّرُ |
No darkness will cover their faces, nor humiliation. (10-26) |
وَلَا يَرْهَقُ وُجُوهَهُمْ قَتَرٌ وَلَا ذِلَّةٌ |
cover |
رَهِقَ-يَرْهَقُ |
So when the night covered him [with darkness], (6-76) |
فَلَمَّا جَنَّ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْلُ |
cover |
جَنَّ-يَجُنُّ |
while another faction worried about themselves, (3-154) |
وَطَائِفَةٌ قَدْ أَهَمَّتْهُمْ أَنفُسُهُمْ |
worry |
أَهَمَّ-يُهِمُّ |
or went out to fight, (3-156) |
أَوْ كَانُوا غُزًّى |
fighter |
غَازٍ ج غُزًّى |
until We make evident those who strive among you [for the cause of Allah]. (47-31) |
حَتَّىٰ نَعْلَمَ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ مِنكُمْ |
who strive |
مُجَاهِدٌ ج مُجَاهِدُونَ |
So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. (3-159) |
فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ اللَّهِ لِنتَ لَهُمْ |
lenient |
لَانَ-يَلِينُ |
then do not be soft in speech [to men], (33-32) |
فَلَا تَخْضَعْنَ بِالْقَوْلِ |
be soft |
خَضَعَ-يَخْضَعُ |
They wish that you would soften [in your position], so they would soften [toward you]. (68-9) |
وَدُّوا لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ |
be soften |
أَدْهَنَ-يُدْهِنُ |
and be harsh upon them. (9-73) |
وَاغْلُظْ عَلَيْهِمْ |
be harsh |
غَلُظَ-يَغْلُظُ |
So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him]. (93-9) |
فَأَمَّا الْيَتِيمَ فَلَا تَقْهَرْ |
oppress |
قَهرَ-يَقْهَرُ |
And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, (3-159) |
وَلَوْ كُنتَ فَظًّا غَلِيظَ الْقَلْبِ |
be rude |
فَظٌّ |
Even if you had been inside your houses, those decreed to be killed would have come out. (3-154) |
لَّوْ كُنتُمْ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ لَبَرَزَ |
come out |
بَرَزَ-يَبْرُزُ |
That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds. (99-6) |
يَوْمَئِذٍ يَصْدُرُ النَّاسُ أَشْتَاتًا |
depart |
صَدَرَ-يَصْدُرُ |
And it is not for the believers to go forth [to battle] all at once. (9-122) |
وَمَا كَانَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لِيَنفِرُوا كَافَّةً |
go forth [to battle] |
نَفَرَ-يَنْفِرُ |
they would have disbanded from about you. (3-159) |
لَانفَضُّوا مِنْ حَوْلِكَ |
disband |
اِنْفَضَّ-يَنْفِضُّ |
and then they dismiss themselves. (9-127) |
ثُمَّ انصَرَفُوا |
dismiss |
اِنْصَرَفَ-يَنْصَرِفُ |
he turned on his heels. (8-48) |
نَكَصَ عَلَىٰ عَقِبَيْهِ |
turn on heel |
نَكَصَ-يَنْكُصُ |
So let those beware who dissent from the Prophet's order, (24-63) |
الَّذِينَ يَتَسَلَّلُونَ مِنكُمْ لِوَاذًا |

سَلَّلَ-يُسَلِّلُ |
