عَسَى can refer two meanings: a) hope and b) fear
The infinite verb is used after it. That means:
أَنْ + مُضَارِع مَنْصُوبٌ) )
Hopefully, Allah will be forgiving upon them |
عَسَى اللَّهُ أَنْ يَتُوْبَ عَلَيْهِمْ |
To mean hope. |
Whatever you don’t like it is perhaps good for you. |
وَ عَسَى أَنْ تَكْرَهُوْا شَيْئًا وَ هُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ |
|
Perhaps I will marry this year. |
عَسَيْتُ أَنْ أَتَزَوَّجَ هٰذَا الْعَامَ |
|
Perhaps your master will raise you the maqam mahmud. |
عَسَىٰ أَن يَبْعَثَكَ رَبُّكَ مَقَامًا مَّحْمُودًا |
|
Perhaps whatever you like for yourself is not good for you. |
وَعَسَىٰ أَن تُحِبُّوا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ شَرٌّ لَّكُمْ |
To mean fear. |
On the other-hand perhaps you dislike something but that is good for you. |
وَعَسَىٰ أَن تَكْرَهُوا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ |
عَسَى as strong and weak verb both
اَلْفِعْلُ التَّامُ Strong verb |
Weak verb الفِعْلُ النَّاقِصُ |
عَسَى اَنْ يَهْدِيَنِ رَبِّي It is expected that my master will guide me. |
عَسَى اللَّهُ اَنْ يَتُوْبَ عَلَيْهِمْ It is expected that Allah will be forgiving upon them. |
