طَفِقَ, جَعَلَ, أَخَذَ etc. are used to mean ‘start’. The ism and Khabar come after it. These are incomplete verb and the present/ future form of the verb is used in these.
Bilal started writing. |
طَفِقَ بِلَالٌ يَكْتُبُ |
Bilal started explaining the lesson. |
أَخَذَ بِلَالٌ يَشْرَحُ الْدَّرْسَ |
I started eating. |
جَعَلْتُ آكُلُ |
Then he started making a hole on their feet and throat. |
فَطَفِقَ مَسْحًا بِالسُّوقِ وَالْأَعْنَاقِ |
