لَوْ  means if. It is used in the case of some past incident with two dependent verbs which did not take place. Example- لَوْ اِجْتَهَدْتَ لَنَجَحْتَ  If you were hardworking , you would have passed. Here,

لَنَجَحْتَ

اِجْتَهَدْتَ

لَوْ

جَوَابُ الشَّرْطِ

فِعْلُ الشَّرْطِ

حَرْفُ شَرْطٍ غَيْرُ جَازِمٍ

 

And had you been hard-hearted they would have gone away from you.

وَلَوْ كُنْتَ فَظًّا غَلِيظَ الْقَلْبِ لَانفَضُّوا مِنْ حَوْلِكَ

And had Allah wanted He would have made you one nation?

وَلَوْ شَاءَ اللَّـهُ لَجَعَلَكُمْ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً

And If had been anyone other than Allah you would find many disagreements here.

وَلَوْ كَانَ مِنْ عِندِ غَيْرِ‌ اللَّـهِ لَوَجَدُوا فِيْهِ اخْتِلَافًا كَثِيرً‌ا

 

There would be لَ  at the beginning of jawab. But if it is negative then there will be no لَ .

Had I listened to it, I would not say anything.

لَوْ سَمِعْتُ هَذَا مَا قُلْتُ شَيْئًا

Had they left with you, they would not increase anything but your doubt.

لَوْ خَرَ‌جُوا فِيْكُمْ مَّا زَادُوكُمْ إِلَّا خَبَالًا

Had Allah wished, they would not fight against each other.

وَلَوْ شَاءَ اللَّـهُ مَا اقْتَتَلُوا

Had you spent all the stuff on the earth,  you could not develop love in their heart.

لَوْ أَنفَقْتَ مَا فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا مَّا أَلَّفْتَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِهِمْ
